Kullgren, John F.
Folke Johannes KULLGREN (1906-1976), also known as John F. Kullgren, was a Swedish journalist, born in Lushan (Kuling), China, a son of missionaries Nils Kullgren Jonasson and Anna Paulina Brandt. Kullgren worked at the Swedish Legation in Beijing and for fellow Swede, Sven Hedin, the geographer and travel writer. From 1933 to 1936 he held a professorship at the Catholic University of Peking, where he taught history and economics. In the 1940s he moved to the United States, where his good knowledge of the Chinese language and Chinese culture led to employment by the U.S. Army and intelligence services.
