Mei Li Photographic Studio

The Mei Li Photographic Studio at Nan Chih Tze, Peiping (Beijing), flourishing in the 1920s and 30s. The company sold touristic and topographic photographs, as small prints in packets (for example: 'GREAT WALL OF CHINA / All marked in English / $1.00 per dozen'), as large-sized prints and on post cards. Their black and white prints of heritage architecture were sometimes hand-coloured. Special Collections, University of Bristol, have a set of large-sized hand-coloured prints by the Mei Li Photographic Studio in the John Stanfield Collection (ref: DM3114/1).
