A Chan (YA Zhen) was a Chinese photographer and dentist, with studios in Guangzhou (Canton) and in Hong Kong. A Chan (Ya Zhen) specialised in local Canton views. UB01-20 shows the sign outside A Chan’s Guangzhou (Canton) studio/shop  In 1905, A Chan (Ya Zhen) had a shop/studio at 179 Tai Sun Street, New City, Canton (Source: ‘A Pictorial Handbook to Canton’, page 35). A Chan’s photographs were often printed with a caption, characteristically in capital letters, in white, placed near the lower margin of the print.
