University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: AL-s04. The date in the caption is certainly incorrect: the Scots Guards arrived in Shanghai on 2 July 1928 and were based there until 20 January 1929 as part of the British Shanghai Defence Force. On both days, and on a number of occasions in between, they paraded along the Nanjing Road (as in this photograph).
