Notes
University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ar03-049. The blueish silvery sheen, which appears as a halo around the subjects in this photograph, is known as silver mirroring (銀鏡現象). Silver mirroring is a natural chemical process, which affects photographic materials which contain silver, over time. The metallic sheen of degraded silver (silver sulphide) typically affects darker areas of a print the most. The condition is exacerbated by poor storage (high humidity or dampish conditions).
