This photograph was in an album. Digitised from a negative made for a copy print. St Joseph's Church, also known as Eastern Church or Wangfujing Church (王府井天主堂) or Dongtang (東堂), Peking (Beijing) was evidently badly damaged during the Boxer Uprising. It was rebuilt in 1904. There is a description of the interior in ‘The Crippled Tree’ by Han Suyin (Jonathan Cape, 1965), pp354-6.
