University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: BL01-03. The Bund had been decorated to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Connaught to Shanghai in April 1890. The banner reads: "THE FOREIGNER IN [..] CATHAY BIDS YOU WELCOME." Outside the Shanghai Club, there is a horse-drawn delivery van for Hall and Holtz, drapers, tailors and hosiers. Also a feather duster hawker.
