The characters around the arch are a translation from the Gospel According to St John, 3:16, in the Bible (‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life’). The Chinese characters are, from right to left: 蓋上主以獨生之子賜世 俾信[之 [a character is hidden by the lamp]者免沉淪而得永生其愛世如此 . Tai Lung (大良 Da Liang or Daliang) is a subdistrict of Shunde (formerly known as Shuntak), Foshan (formerly known as Fatshan), Guangdong (formerly known as Kwangtung or Canton Province), located to the east of Shunde City.
