University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Hu01-012. Gladys Mary Dever Hughes, the eldest daughter of Thomas Francis Hughes, was born in 1886. In 1913 she married Raymond Anthony Addington, who became the 6th Viscount Sidmouth in 1953. Gladys Mary Dever Addington, Viscountess Sidmouth, died in 1983. Vivandière = canteen keeper (troop follower, with liquor or provisions).
