Historical Photographs of China album reference: Hv35. Edward Bangs Drew album of carte-de-visite portraits. Subject: An employee of the Chinese Maritime Customs Service in Ningbo, Li Gui was sent as a member of China's delegation to the United States Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876, primarily to keep a record of the event. He went on to become the first officially sanctioned Chinese official to travel around the world, recording his impressions in A Journey to the East. General note: Title from album caption.
