Provenance: Purchased from Lucy Drew, 1949. Subject: Daughter of ship Captain Levi Hotchkiss, Emma P. Gray (ca. 1841-1899) married Captain Horatio N. Gray in 1861 and accompanied him to China in 1868 where she lived abroad his steamer the "Fire Queen" on the Yangtze River.
