Notes
Historical Photographs of China album reference: Hv43. Islam in China. General note: Excerpt from unpublished photo essay, plate 59: "A Moslem restaurant sign with the teapot and Arabic in the center. At the top are two Chinese characters 'ch'ing' and 'chen,' clean and true. Just these two characters on many signs make a shop one where Moslems may eat. These correspond to the "kosher" characters on a Jewish eating house." Access to original photographs and albums in the Rev. Claude L. Pickens, Jr. Collection is restricted. Photographs and images from the collection may be reproduced only with written permission. Contact the Harvard-Yenching Library for permissions and fees.
