University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Hy01-45. A filature was an establishment for reeling silk from silk moth cocoons. Herbert Wilcockson was a silk inspector and head of the silk department at Arnhold, Karberg & Co., Shanghai. It is feasible that this photograph was taken at his workplace. See Hy01-35, RA-m172 and RA-m184.
