Notes
University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: JC-s122. This bust of Luís Vaz de Camões is in Camões Grotto, Praça de Luis de Camões de Macau, Macau. Luís de Camões (or Camoens), c1524-1580, was a celebrated Portuguese poet, who wrote 'Os Lusíadas' (The Lusiads - Soul of Portugal). Some argue that Camões wrote part of the Lusiads in Macau – but by no means all of the epic poem. However, there is no consensus on this and some doubt that he ever went to Macau at all.
