University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Jn-d04. Bishan Singh is sitting in the centre of this studio photograph. The two children are Ranjit Singh Sangha (the younger child, on the left) and his cousin Gurdip Singh Sangha (on the right). Bishan Singh was an employee of the Chinese Maritime Customs. The three of them sailed from Shanghai to Bombay via Singapore in 1939, on the Italian ship SS Conte Biancamano. Upon his return to Shanghai, Bishan Singh joined the Indian National Army as a Captain and was imprisoned after World War II ended.
