University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Jn-d06. A farewell was organized for the Russian doctor and anaesthetist (anesthesiologist, anaesthesiologist) Victor Smolnikoff by Sikhs/Indians in 1954. Dr. Victor P. Smolnikoff (1914-1994) was the go-to physician for the Sikhs/Indian diaspora in Shanghai. This photograph was taken outside the Shanghai Gurdwara in the spring of 1954. In the front row there are several officials from the Indian Consulate in Shanghai. Kartar Singh Sangha is the tall Sikh standing to the right of the children in the centre of the photograph. Pritam Singh Sangha is standing behind the lady in a dark saree in the first row. Some of the children standing in the middle are of mixed ethnicity (Sikh - Chinese).
