University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: MB-s01. Shanghai born A.L. Crank joined the SMP in 1937, and his service terminated in 1942. His father had also served in the force, as did his brother Duncan Ernest Crank, who died as a result of a pistol accident after 2 year's service on 16 January 1940.
