University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: ML05-d45. Trained at the University of Liverpool, William Band taught physics at Yenching University, Beijing. William Band and Michael Lindsay taught advanced radio engineering classes to twenty-six handpicked soldiers from around the Jinchaji base area, many of whom went on to have significant post-war careers. Claire and William Band fled Beijing with the Lindsays on 8 December 1941. Claire and William Band are the authors of 'Dragon Fangs' (George Allen & Unwin, 1947), which was republished in USA as 'Two Years with the Chinese Communists' (Yale University Press, 1948).
