This photograph was reproduced in ‘The Unknown War, North China 1937-1945' by Michael Lindsay (London, 1975), with the caption: Lang Ya Shan (Wolf's Tooth Mountains) near 1st sub-district Headquarters taken after one of the rare winter snowfalls. On the top a memorial had been erected for soldiers who had defended Lang Ya Shan against a Japanese attack until ammunition had run out. The defence and the escape of the survivors was helped by a Taoist hermit who lived in a temple near the top of the mountain.
