University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: ML06-d006. The Dakota (piloted by Captain Jack E. Champion with co-pilot Sergeant Coy and radio operator Sergeant George W. White) had brought to Yenan the first arrivals of the United States Army Observation Group (Dixie Mission), which included Colonel David Barrett and Captain Charlie Stelle. See an account of this in 'Bold Plum, with the Guerrillas in China's War against Japan' by Hsiao Li Lindsay (2007), pp 273-274.
