This photograph was reproduced in ‘The Unknown War, North China 1937-1945' by Michael Lindsay (London, 1975), with others, and captioned: These were taken in the Forbidden City (the old imperial palace) in the winter of 1938-9. The long Chinese gowns as men's wear have disappeared but the buildings remain unchanged.
