University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Mx01-131. Cadbury Research Library archive finding number: DA26/2/2/4 (John Preston Maxwell Papers). This photograph was most probably taken outside the Mission Hospital in Taiwan-fu (Taiwan Fu, Tai-Wan-Fu), which is now Tainan. It seems that the caption in the photograph album is wrong and that this photograph depicts the Rev Dr 'Thomas' Barclay (1849-1935) and his wife Elizabeth. Thomas and Elizabeth (née Turner) were married in 1892.
