University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: NA30-151. See NA30-147, NA30-148, NA30-149, NA30-150, NA30-152, NA30-153, and NA30-154 (other views of the British Consulate in Kunming). It is possible that this is the office of Sir William Henry Wilkinson (1858-1930), who was the British Consul-General in Yunnanfu (Kunming) 1902-1909. If so, the portrait on the desk would be of his wife who died from diphtheria in 1902. Wilkinson was a sinologist, Chinese playing card collector, card game enthusiast and expert.
