University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: OH01-117. This photograph seems to show a stage or throne room. Some of the foreign men are raising their canes or hats (similar to a sabre arch at a wedding), and one is kneeling, hand on heart - as if to honour, in a humorous way, the man pretending to be bashful, in the centre.
