University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: PF01-57. Standing in the middle is Sir Robert Hart (1835-1911), Inspector-General of China's Imperial Maritime Custom Service (IMCS) from 1863 to 1911. Lady Hester Jane Hart (died 1928) is sitting at the front. Several of the people in this group are dressed for riding, with crop whips. Unidentified location - perhaps within riding distance of Beijing?
