University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: PF01-58. The character on the left, who might be a man wearing a woman’s costume, has a false nose and is operating a Chinese-style spinning wheel. Elizabeth (Bessie) L’Evesque Pirkis (1836-1900) is on the right, holding a book. Behind them is a stage set, which may have been painted by Bessie Pirkis, and includes initial capital letters above a doorway. Unidentified location - perhaps Beijing? See PF01-80 (another print).
