University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: PF01-81. An oil painting signed: 'Bessie Pirkis. Peking 1877.' The painting by Elizabeth (Bessie) L’Evesque Pirkis (1836-1900) still exists. The children are Amy Naomi L'Evesque Pirkis (1872-1953) and 'Georgie' Albert George L'Evesque Pirkis (1875-1941). The amahs are Li Mai and Urh. In the background are bamboo and gingko.
