GERMAN CONSUL / BY HIS WIDOW IN CONJUCTION WITH HIS FRIENDS IN CHINA AS A TOKEN OF HER AFFECTION AND THEIR APPRECIATION OF HIS MANY ADMIRABLE QUALITIES SUSTAINED IN THE RELATION OF HUSBAND, FATHER, FRIEND AND CITIZEN. / HE DIED AT AMOY ON THE 23RD NOVEMBER 1879, AGED 40 YEARS OF WHICH HE HAD SERVED SOME 17 YEARS IN CHINA. The photographer and consul Carl Heinrich Bismarck (1839-1879) was the illegitimate son of Friedrich Albrecht Graf zu Eulenburg. Bismarck was the official photographer for the Prussian East Asian Expedition, to Japan, in 1860-1861, along with John Wilson and August Sachtler. He later had a distinguished diplomatic career in China, serving in Peking and Amoy (Xiamen).
