University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ru-s055.  Jingfuge (Hall of Utmost Blessing), Summer Palace, Peking (Beijing).  The couplet on the column is said to be by Empress Dowager Cixi.  It describes beauty as beautiful as the purple sky.
