The Belvedere on Mount Austin, Hong Kong

Notes

University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: SR-s05. This photograph on a postcard, is in the Gordon Arthur Richards Collection, held in Special Collections, University of Bristol Library (DM2841). This resting place or viewing pavilion was called The Belvedere, and it is sometimes referred to as an old watch tower, or as a folly. It was built by Emanuel Belilios, as a feature of his garden for his nearby house 'The Eyrie'. E.R. Belilios eccentrically commuted between the Peak and Central on a camel until the Peak Tramway was built.
