University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Sw02-056. G W Swire referenced each negative in this album with the prefix B written in India ink. This negative is referenced B36. The album itself has also been archived at some stage with the reference P1/I.  Lancefield was built in 1855 by Robert Napier and Sons of Glasgow for Jardine Matheson, to open up a monthly Hong Kong-Calcutta express service.  The ship had a fascinating career, variously named Koshin Maru, Yung Hai An and Manila.  China Navigation Company purchased the vessel for use as a hulk in 1873, renaming her again Lancefield.   She was sold to local owners in 1912.
