University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Sw29-124. Khaki cloth Kodak Negative Album, 12 cm x 9.5 cm. 187 negatives sized 1.5 inches x 1.25 inches -:- 40mm x 30mm. The album was later labelled P62/V. On the right is Ted McLaren, Butterfield and Swire’s agent in Tianjin. Ted McLaren (1902-1950) was a Scottish rugby international and friend of Eric Liddell. Both men were interned in Weixian camp, where McLaren was chairman of the discipline committee. After the war, McLaren spoke up for the camp commandant to clear him of charges of war crimes.
