The album was purchased by Edgar Taylor, Royal Navy (HMS Eagle) from Petty Officer Chidley - some of the photographs may have been taken by Chidley. No caption for this photograph in the album. The person photographed may be wearing a face mask, or is disfigured, perhaps by a medical condition such as leprosy? Martha Gellhorn writes of seeing people who were probably suffering from leprosy, in ‘Travels with Myself and Another’.
