Notes
University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: VH02-007. Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution reference: L04357-003c. The Revd. Walter Henry Medhurst D.D. (1796-1857) was a missionary and one of the earliest to translate the Bible into Chinese. The Revd. Dr Walter Henry Medhurst died on 24th January 1857, in London. He had left China on 10th September 1856, in failing health. The date (1857) written in the album, is written in a way that suggests uncertainty about the year - the 7 seems to have started out being written as a 6. Photograph by Robert Sillar. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Henry_Medhurst. Betty Medhurst was the wife of the Revd. Dr Walter Henry Medhurst - see Hi-s130. See also an image of Sir Walter Henry Medhurst, who was the son of the Revd. Dr Walter Henry Medhurst and Betty Medhurst: Hi-s136.
