This is a slightly out of focus copy photograph of a photograph of Ye Mingchen 葉名琛 (Yeh Ming-ch'en) (1807-1859), which was taken after he had been captured by the British. Ye Mingchen, the Governor General of Guangdong and Guangxi Provinces (LiangGuang) was referred to as Commissioner Ye, by the British. He was captured by British forces after their bombardment of Guangzhou in December 1857. The original photograph has been attributed to either Felice Beato (Photograph taken in Calcutta, 1859) or to Pierre Joseph Rossier (Photograph taken in Canton, 1858).
