Notes

University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: WC01-133. Budai (Hotei; Pu-Tai), the God of Contentment or Happiness, or the Laughing Buddha. Another photograph of this statue was published on page 60 of 'Peking' by Heinz v. Perckhammer (Berlin, 1928), and captioned "Pi-yun-tse, God of Happiness". It is probably that the statue was at the Temple of the Azure Clouds (Bi Yun Si; Pi Yün Ssu; Biyunsi), an Indian-style Buddhist Temple in the Western Hills, Peking (Beijing).
