University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: WC01-202. Left to right: William Boyd Cooper, A. Ramsay, C.W. Bernard and Percy J. Miller. Percy J. Miller, born in 1880, joined the North China British Volunteer Corps at Peking from November 1914 and then enlisted into the British Army Territorial Force in 1916 as Private.  Miller was commissioned as a Lieutenant with the Royal Engineers and served on the Western Front from 3 June 1916, being promoted to Lieutenant.  Miller was transferred to the Chinese Labour Corps in 1918.  Captain P.J. Miller was awarded the Military Cross in 1918, for “conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty”. See WC01-225.
