Photo from an album (UoB reference Os05) kept in the School of Oriental and African Studies Archives, London (SOAS reference MS 380 876/5). No caption in the album for this enigmatic photo of a large group of Chinese men with some European men and a Japanese man, some in military uniform, with medals. John C Oswald is sitting third from the left. Probably late 19th century. Perhaps Foochow (Fuzhou).
