University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ar03-026. The sign in the window of the shop on the left is Deutsche Apotheke (i.e. a chemist or pharmacy). Deutsche Apotheke (Sine Pharmacy) was located at 14 Broadway, next to the Astor House. The business was founded in 1928 by Kirkor, run by M. A. Joffe and employed two other Russian chemists.
