Printed image, cut from a magazine and captioned as follows: 'ONE OF TUNG FU HSIANG'S MEN [..] the British Legation to be treated by a European doctor. He was blindfolded, and [...].' Caption on typed list accompanying the box of negatives: 'Messenger asleep'. Digitised from a negative made for a copy print. The man was one of General Dong Fuxiang's force.  Dong led a contingent of Muslim troops (the Kansu Braves) from Gansu to fight against the Eight-Nation Alliance during the Boxer Uprising.
