Notes
University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Bk13-04. The bronze statue was designed by the Italian sculptor Mario Raggi (1821-1907) and cast by H. Young & Co in Pimlico, London. It was briefly displayed in London, before its installation under a stone canopy in Statue Square, Hong Kong. The statue was taken to Japan during the Second World War to be melted down for armaments, but most of it survived the war and it is now in Victoria Park, Hong Kong, without its original controversial stone canopy. This image is from an article published in 'The Illustrated London News', 28 January 1893, page 118. See Statue and symbol: Queen Victoria in Hong Kong by Dr Helena F.S. Lopes'.'
