University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Bo01-086. No caption in the album for this photo. The pavilion was known as The Tortoise Temple. This photograph shows the pavilion after it had been damaged by bombardment by Anglo-French forces in 1860. Surviving structures were taken down and building materials were removed from the island during the reconstruction of Wanshoushan on Longevity Hill in the 1880s.
