This winged lion tomb guardian (貔貅, Pixiu, Bixie) marks the royal tomb of Hsiao Hsui (Xiao Xiu 蕭秀), who was a Liang Dynasty prince. It is located at Ganjiaxiang, Qixia District, near Nanking (Nanjing) – and is now in the front yard of Ganjiaxiang Elementary School. See 'The Great Statuary of China' by Victor Segalen (University of Chicago Press, 1978), plate 30, page 105 (which shows the same farm buildings as in the background of DC-s28).
