Darwent, Minister of the Union Church, Shanghai, was also the author of a photographer-friendly guidebook entitled, ‘Shanghai: a handbook for travellers and residents to the chief objects of interest in and around the foreign settlement and native city’ (1904) - https://archive.org/details/cu31924023217825. 'The Manse' was Darwent's house, next to the Union Church, Soochow Road (Nansuzhou Lu), Shanghai. Darwent is on the left.
