Notes

University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: FD-s036. Graffiti notice relating to the anti-British boycott movements of the 1925-27 Nationalist Revolution, on a gate-screen (screen wall): ‘God Damn Britishers! Get out this Road’. This notice was apparently at the College of Agriculture in Peking (now the China Agricultural University, Beijing) - it is mentioned on page 80 of 'An Adventurous Journey' by Mrs Alec-Tweedie (Thornton Butterworth, revised edition, 1929) and also discussed on pages 78-79 of ‘Peking Picnic’ by Ann Bridge (1932). There is another photograph of the slogan on the wall, taken in the summer of 1925, and looking fresher than in FD-s036, in an album in the National Archives, London (ref: CO 1069 429). See AL-s03.
