Captain Carey and the crew of H.M.S Firebrand, Yingkou (营口市)

Notes

University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Hu01-027. During the First Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), H.M.S. ‘Firebrand’ and U.S.S. ‘Petrel’ were sent to protect locally resident Europeans before the river froze and cut them off. Holes were cut in the bank and the ships floated into docks dug ready for them. Water was then run out again and the ships were high and dry. Mud walls were then built around them and the ships thatched over with straw. See Hu01-145.
