University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: JC-147. 'Annie' and 'Cuthbert' are a large locust and a large grasshopper. A pre-decimal British penny, dated 1929, was included in the photograph, giving scale. The diameter of this penny would have been 31mm. Caption on the back of the photograph: HMS CUMBERLAND - suggesting that this photograph was taken by a sailor on that Royal Navy ship. See Ep01-258, Ep01-259, JC-s149, Ro-n1006 and Ro-s168.
