University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: JC-s379. This image is on a cigarette card ('Ogden's Guinea Gold Cigarettes') made of photographic paper. Cigarette cards were supplied free in a packet of cigarettes. HMS Orlando was launched in 1888 and served on the China Station from 1899 until 1902. During the Boxer Uprising sailors from HMS Orlando formed part of the force led by Vice-Admiral Sir Edward Seymour attempting to relieve the British Legation in Beijing. A replica of a bell captured from the Taku Forts forms part of a memorial to HMS Orlando in Victoria Park, Portsmouth, England. See JC-s377.
