University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Mx02-101. Cadbury Research Library archive finding number: DA26/2/2/1 (John Preston Maxwell Papers). The Hope Hospital, Kulangsu (Gulangyu, Xiamen) was founded by Dr John Otte and opened in April 1898. It is now the Xiamen City 2nd Hospital. Dr John Abraham Otte (1861-1910) was a (Dutch) American missionary surgeon, doctor, evangelist, teacher, architect and carpenter. See Mx02-110.
