University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: OH02-04. A group of men, women and children, perhaps on a outing? Oliver Heywood Hulme is in the top row, far left. Born in Manchester in 1882, Oliver Heywood Hulme was briefly employed by the Chinese Maritime Customs Service from 1905 to 1906 before moving to the postal service in China. He served in post offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Taiyuan, Nanjing, Anqing and Wuhan before being transferred back to Beijing and appointed secretary of the Chinese post office’s audit department. He died on 18 September 1923 at Hove, East Sussex, England.
